Imperial Beach is California's southernmost beach town, sitting right on the Mexican border where the Tijuana River meets the Pacific. Take I-5 south from San Diego and exit at Coronado Avenue, then head west to the coast. The 20-minute drive from downtown San Diego makes it a popular day trip destination. You can also reach it via scenic Highway 75 from Coronado. The city's pier stretches 1,500 feet into the Pacific, making it one of the longest wooden piers on the West Coast.
