Illiopolis is a farming town of 890 people about 25 miles southeast of Springfield via Route 29. The area is classic central Illinois prairie country with corn and soybean fields. Most traffic is local commuters heading to Springfield or nearby towns, though I-72 brings some longer-distance travelers through the region. The town has a restored 1920s bandstand that still hosts summer concerts.
