Ilion is a small Mohawk Valley city built around the historic Remington Arms factory. Route 5S runs through downtown, connecting to the Thruway via Route 28 north to Little Falls. Most traffic flows the 15 miles west to Utica for work and services. The Remington Arms Museum downtown showcases the firearms heritage that defined this industrial community.
