Iaeger is a small coal town of about 250 people nestled in McDowell County's Appalachian Mountains. US Route 52 is the main access road, connecting north to Williamson (20 miles) and south toward Welch through winding mountain terrain. Most traffic comes from the local mining region, though some visitors explore the scenic backroads. The town sits along the old Norfolk and Western Railway line that once hauled coal from these mountains.
