Hurricane is a small city of about 7,000 people located 12 miles west of Charleston along the Kanawha River. Take I-64 west to Exit 34 for direct access via State Route 34. The city serves as a bedroom community for Charleston commuters and sits along Hurricane Creek, which gave the town its name after early settlers found trees toppled in a spiral pattern from a massive windstorm.
