Hurley is a small desert mining town in southwestern New Mexico, reached via US Highway 180 about 15 miles east of Silver City. Most visitors drive from Albuquerque (I-25 south to Deming, then US 180 west) or Phoenix (I-10 to Deming, then US 180). The town sits at 4,400 feet elevation with year-round sunshine and mild desert weather. The massive Chino copper mine, one of North America's largest open-pit operations, dominates the landscape just south of town.
