Hopewell sits along the James River about 25 miles south of Richmond, accessible via Interstate 295 and Route 10. This small industrial city grew around the convergence of the James and Appomattox Rivers. Most visitors arrive from Richmond on I-295, a 30-minute drive, while locals use Route 10 for daily trips to Chester and Colonial Heights. The restored 1928 Beacon Theatre downtown still operates with its original Wurlitzer organ.
