Hope is a tiny lakeside town of about 100 people on Lake Pend Oreille's north shore, 15 miles east of Sandpoint via Highway 200. It's 45 miles northeast of Coeur d'Alene and about 90 minutes from Spokane. The scenic drive hugs the lakeshore with mountain views. Hope hosts the annual Turtle Derby each August, where painted turtles race in circles drawn in the dirt.
