Hoopeston is a farming town of about 5,000 people in east-central Illinois, near the Indiana border. Route 1 runs right through the middle, connecting north to Kankakee and south toward Danville, while US Route 9 provides east-west access. Most visitors arrive via these state highways after leaving Interstate 57 about 25 miles west. The town sits in classic Midwest corn country and proudly calls itself the "Sweet Corn Capital of the World," hosting a popular Sweet Corn Festival each September.
