Hoonah sits on Chichagof Island in Southeast Alaska, accessible only by plane or ferry since no roads connect it to the mainland. Most visitors fly into Hoonah Airport, about 2 miles from town, or arrive by cruise ship at Icy Strait Point. The community of 862 people is the largest Tlingit village in Alaska, surrounded by Tongass National Forest and facing Icy Strait. The town's claim to fame is Icy Strait Point, built on a former salmon cannery that once processed 1.5 million cans annually.
