Hooks is a small East Texas town of about 2,300 people located 15 miles southwest of Texarkana in Bowie County. US Highway 259 runs north-south through town, connecting to Marshall and Interstate 20 for longer trips to Dallas or Shreveport. The area sits in the Piney Woods region with rolling forested terrain and a humid subtropical climate. Hooks hosts the annual Derrick Days festival each September, celebrating the local oil industry with live music and carnival rides.
