Hondo is a Hill Country town 40 miles west of San Antonio on US Highway 90, the main route to Del Rio and the border. State Highway 173 connects north to Kerrville, while FM 462 serves local traffic from Castroville. The town sits where the Hill Country meets ranch land along the Medina River. Downtown features vintage grape murals celebrating Hondo's former title as "Grape Capital of Texas."
