Homewood is a south Chicago suburb about 25 miles from downtown, accessible via Interstate 80 and US Route 1. Most residents commute north to Chicago using these major routes or Illinois Route 394. The village sits in typical Great Lakes terrain with established neighborhoods and experiences full seasonal weather. Gary/Chicago International Airport is 15 miles southeast for regional flights. The restored 1893 railroad depot downtown is one of the last surviving Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad stations.
