Holstein is a small farming town of 1,600 people in western Iowa, serving as Ida County's seat. US Highway 20 runs east-west through town, connecting to Sioux City 45 miles northwest and Fort Dodge 60 miles east, while State Highway 175 provides the north-south route to Cherokee. The 1902 Ida County Courthouse dominates the town square with its red brick Romanesque design and distinctive clock tower that's been keeping time for over a century.
