Highway 75 runs north-south through town, connecting to Pipestone 8 miles north and Sioux Falls 45 miles south, while Highway 23 goes east-west to nearby farm communities. The area is classic prairie farmland with a continental climate. The town was founded by Dutch immigrants in the 1880s, and their Dutch Reformed Church still stands as the community's historic centerpiece.
