Holcomb is a small farming town of about 2,600 people in southwestern Kansas, five miles northeast of Garden City on US Highway 50. Visitors typically arrive via US 50 from Garden City or continue through on longer routes between Colorado and eastern Kansas cities. The area sits on flat prairie with a semi-arid climate. Holcomb is famous as the setting for Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood," with the original water tower still standing as a landmark visible across the plains.
