Hokes Bluff is a small river town in northeastern Alabama, about 10 miles from Gadsden via US 278. Take I-59 north from Birmingham (65 miles) or I-20 west to I-59 from Atlanta (90 miles), then exit onto US 278. The city sits on rolling terrain along the Coosa River in Appalachian foothills. It's named for the prominent bluff where settler James Hoke built his homestead in the 1820s.
