Hokah sits in southeastern Minnesota's bluff country, eight miles from the Mississippi River in a valley surrounded by wooded limestone hills. Take Highway 16 from La Crosse (15 miles) or follow Highway 52 south from the Twin Cities through Rochester, then Highway 16 east for a scenic 140-mile drive through Root River Valley. The 1917 Hokah Dam creates a popular fishing spot on the Root River where locals catch walleye and bass.
