Hoisington is a small Kansas town on US Highway 281, about 13 miles north of Great Bend and 35 miles south of Hays. Most visitors arrive via US 281, which connects to Interstate 70 at Hays for longer trips. The highway also serves local commuters heading to Great Bend for shopping and services. The town sits in flat prairie country with wheat fields stretching in every direction. The water tower features a painted cardinal mascot that's visible from the main highway.
