Hines is a small high desert town in southeastern Oregon, connected to Burns by a short stretch of US Highway 20. The main route for visitors is Highway 20 west from Bend, about 130 miles through pine forests and high desert. Burns Municipal Airport sits between the two towns for general aviation. The city was named after Edward Hines, whose lumber company ran a major sawmill here processing ponderosa pine in the early 1900s.
