Hill City is a small town of 503 people in north-central Minnesota's lake country, about 130 miles north of Minneapolis via I-35 and Highway 169. The most common route from Duluth uses Highway 2 west to Grand Rapids, then Highway 169 south. Local traffic relies on Highway 200 connecting to nearby Remer and Walker. The town sits on the converted Soo Line Trail, a 148-mile recreational path from Moose Lake to Bemidji.
