Highland is a small farming town of about 1,000 people in northeastern Kansas, sitting on bluffs above the Missouri River valley. Take US Highway 36 west from St. Joseph (25 miles) or from Kansas City via I-435 north to US-36 west (60 miles). The town's most notable landmark is its restored 1883 brick schoolhouse that now serves as a community center.
