Hibbing sits on Minnesota's Iron Range about 75 miles northwest of Duluth, connected by US Highway 169 running north-south and Highway 37 east-west. Most visitors arrive via Highway 2 from Duluth or Highway 169 from the Twin Cities. The city is famous for the Hull-Rust-Mahoning Open Pit Mine, the world's largest open-pit iron ore mine with a 3.5-mile-long excavation visible from a public observation deck.
