Hessmer is a small farming community in central Louisiana, accessible via Highway 1 about 15 miles south of Marksville. The town of 800 sits in fertile Red River valley farmland, surrounded by cotton fields and cattle pastures. Most visitors arrive from Baton Rouge (60 miles via US 190 west to Highway 1 north) or Alexandria (30 miles south on Highway 1). The area's roads still follow original 1800s plantation property lines.
