Herrin is located in southern Illinois along Interstate 57, about 15 miles northeast of Carbondale. The city connects to major destinations through I-57 (Chicago 350 miles north, Memphis 160 miles south) and State Route 13 running east-west. Most visitors take I-57 exits 54 or 59, while locals use Route 148 for trips to nearby Marion or Carbondale. The downtown area features a historic town square that hosts the annual Herrin Festa Italiana each May.
