Hazen is a small agricultural city in south-central North Dakota, serving as Mercer County's seat. Located on US Highway 200 between Bismarck (45 miles southeast) and the Montana border, it's easily reached from Interstate 94 via Exit 61 at Beulah. The town sits amid rolling prairie hills near the Missouri River valley, surrounded by farmland and coal mining operations. The 1914 Mercer County Courthouse downtown features a distinctive Art Deco clock tower that's visible from the highway.
