Hayden is a small desert mining town in central Arizona, about 85 miles northeast of Phoenix along the Gila River. Most visitors drive SR-77 from Phoenix via Florence Junction or take the more direct route north from Tucson. The town sits at the intersection of State Routes 77 and 177, connecting to Globe 25 miles south. The massive ASARCO copper smelter smokestack dominates the skyline at 1,177 feet tall.
