Hawthorne is a small Florida town about 20 miles southeast of Gainesville on State Road 20. Most people drive there from I-75 via Gainesville or take US 301 from Jacksonville or Ocala. The town of 1,600 sits among lakes and pine forests in Alachua County. Gainesville Regional Airport is about 25 miles away. An 1881 railroad depot still stands by Little Orange Lake.
