Hawkins is a small East Texas town of about 1,900 people, located 15 miles southwest of Longview via US Highway 80. The main route through town is US 80, with State Highway 14 providing north-south access. Most visitors arrive from Longview or the Dallas area, while locals use the surrounding farm roads. The town is home to Jarvis Christian College, a historically black institution founded in 1912.
