Hatton is a farming town of 608 people in eastern North Dakota's Red River Valley, about 45 minutes southwest of Grand Forks via Highway 200. The main route through town connects Mayville to the east with Carrington to the west. Most long-distance travelers use Highway 200 to reach Interstate 94 near Valley City. The town's water tower features a vintage steam locomotive mural honoring its railroad heritage.
