Harvey sits 20 miles south of downtown Chicago in Cook County's industrial belt. Interstate 94 provides the main highway access, while Route 1 (Halsted Street) runs north-south through town and 147th Street cuts east-west. Most visitors arrive via I-94 from Chicago or Indiana. Gary/Chicago International Airport is about 15 miles southeast. The city houses Ingalls Memorial Hospital, a major medical center serving the far south suburbs.
