Hartwell is a small lakeside city in northeastern Georgia, right on the South Carolina border along Lake Hartwell's shores. US Highway 29 provides the main north-south route through town, connecting to Anderson (25 miles) and Atlanta (100 miles via I-85). The historic downtown square centers around the 1906 Hart County Courthouse with its hourly chiming clock tower.
