Harrold is a tiny Hughes County town of 72 people along Highway 14, about 25 miles northeast of Pierre. Most visitors arrive via US-14 or State Highway 1804, which connect the area to Pierre and the Missouri River corridor. The town was named after a railroad official when it was founded in the early 1900s as a rail stop on the expanding prairie transportation network.
