Harriman sits along US 27 in eastern Tennessee, about 45 miles southwest of Knoxville and 20 miles from Oak Ridge via State Route 61. Most visitors arrive from Knoxville or take I-40 to the US 27 exit. The city was founded in 1890 as a planned temperance community with a permanent alcohol ban written into its original charter.
