Hardin is a small Texas town of about 600 people located 45 miles northeast of Houston in Liberty County. Take US 90 east from Houston through Liberty, then turn north on FM 1409 for the final stretch. The drive takes about an hour from Houston or 30 minutes west from Beaumont. The town sits along the Trinity River in Big Thicket country, where distinctive bald cypress trees with their unique "knees" line the dark riverbanks.
