Hampton is a small county seat in South Carolina's Lowcountry, about an hour from both Charleston and Savannah. US Highway 278 runs right through town, connecting coastal destinations like Hilton Head with inland areas toward Augusta. Most visitors pass through on their way to the coast, but the town serves as Hampton County's government center. The 1878 courthouse with its distinctive clock tower dominates the town square.
