Hamlet is a small railroad town in south-central North Carolina where US 74 meets the Norfolk Southern mainline. Most visitors arrive on US 74 from Charlotte (90 miles) or the coast, while Highway 177 handles local traffic to Rockingham and points south. The historic train depot still stands as a reminder of when passengers changed trains here on routes between New York and Florida.
