Halma is a tiny farming community of 36 people in far northwest Minnesota, just 15 miles from Canada. Highway 11 runs east-west through town, connecting to Karlstad and eventually International Falls. Most visitors arrive via Highway 75 north from Crookston, then take local roads west. The town's community center serves as the local polling place where every eligible voter can gather in one room during elections.
