Halifax is a small county seat in south-central Virginia, home to about 1,500 people along the Banister River. US Route 360 runs right through town, connecting to Richmond 100 miles east and Danville to the west. State Route 501 heads north toward Farmville and Interstate access. The 1838 courthouse on the town square operates one of Virginia's oldest continuous courts, with records going back to 1752.
