Halfway is a tiny mountain town in eastern Oregon's Pine Valley that serves as a jumping-off point for the Eagle Cap Wilderness and Hell's Canyon. Highway 86 provides the main access from Baker City and I-84, about 45 miles west through scenic river valleys. The town sits at 2,700 feet elevation surrounded by national forest, with hot summers and snowy winters. It got its name from being the halfway point between two long-gone mining camps.
