Hagerman is a small farming town in southeastern New Mexico's Pecos River valley, located where US 285 meets State Road 2. Most visitors arrive via US 285 from Roswell (15 miles north) or Artesia (20 miles south), making it a convenient stop between major regional destinations. The town sits amid irrigated farmland in high desert country that sees hot summers and mild winters. Hagerman is famous for its fossil beds, where scientists have unearthed some of North America's most complete ancient horse remains.
