Hackensack is Bergen County's seat, located 12 miles northwest of Manhattan with direct access via Interstate 80 and the George Washington Bridge. Route 4 and Route 17 provide the main commercial corridors, while the Garden State Parkway offers north-south connections. The downtown area centers around the impressive 1912 Art Deco courthouse, one of New Jersey's most striking government buildings.
