Guntown is a small city of about 2,600 people in northeastern Mississippi, sitting along US Highway 78 about 15 miles southeast of Tupelo. Most visitors arrive via US 78 from Memphis (100 miles west) or continue southeast into Alabama. The town sits in Lee County's rolling hills where pine and hardwood forests meet farmland. Guntown got its memorable name during the Civil War when Union soldiers discovered a stash of Confederate weapons hidden in the settlement.
