Gumbranch is a tiny Liberty County community of about 240 people, located 40 miles southwest of Savannah via US Highway 17 and county roads. Most visitors pass through on their way to coastal Georgia destinations or arrive via nearby Wright Army Airfield. The town gets its name from the sweet gum trees that originally shaded its main crossroads.
