Grottoes is a small Shenandoah Valley town right off I-81 at Exit 235, about 20 miles from both Staunton and Harrisonburg. Route 340 runs through town, connecting to the valley's main roads, while the regional airport sits nearby. The town's claim to fame is Grand Caverns, one of America's oldest commercial caves, which has been giving underground tours since 1806 with its historic electric lighting system still illuminating the limestone formations.
