Griggsville is a small farming town in west-central Illinois, about 25 miles from Hannibal, Missouri. Reach it via Illinois Route 107 east-west through town, or US Route 54 from the north and south. Most long-distance visitors come from Springfield (60 miles southeast) on US 54. The surrounding prairie features gentle hills, creek valleys, and endless corn and soybean fields. Griggsville calls itself the "Purple Martin Capital of the Nation" for the thousands of migratory birds that nest in elaborate martin houses throughout town each summer.
