Great Falls is a small Piedmont town of 1,700 people along the Catawba River, about 25 miles south of Charlotte via Highway 21 to I-77. The community connects regionally through Highway 5 and serves as a quiet base for exploring the Carolina Piedmont's rolling hills and river valleys. The town gets its name from the spectacular granite shoals where the Catawba River drops 40 feet in a dramatic series of rapids and waterfalls.
