Grayling is a remote Athabascan village on the Yukon River, 300 miles northwest of Anchorage, accessible only by plane or seasonal river transport. The village serves as the official halfway checkpoint for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, where mushers stop for a hot meal and mandatory rest during the 1,000-mile journey to Nome.
