Grass Valley is a small railroad town of 1,100 people along Interstate 80 in north-central Nevada, about 45 miles east of Winnemucca. Most visitors arrive via I-80 Exit 129, either as long-distance travelers crossing the country or locals driving from Winnemucca for services. The town experiences typical Great Basin desert climate with hot summers and cold winters. The original 1868 Southern Pacific Railroad depot still stands downtown.
