Grants is a high desert town on Interstate 40 between Albuquerque and Gallup, serving as a gateway to Mount Taylor and the volcanic landscape of west-central New Mexico. The former uranium mining hub sits at 6,460 feet elevation with easy highway access for cross-country travelers. Popular drives include the 78-mile route east to Albuquerque and shorter trips south to El Morro National Monument. The town's Mining Museum features the world's only underground uranium mine replica.
